Street Angels Save Lives
Help us bring homeless folks in from the cold this winter!
No act of kindness,
no matter how small,
is ever wasted.
Hi everyone,
We need your help!
I first got involved with Street Angels in 2018. I folded blankets at the warming room at Ascension Church. After years of working on the issue of homelessness - doing research and writing reports - I was face to face with people deeply grateful to have a warm place to stay during the incredible cold of Milwaukee's January.
That experience changed my entire perspective on homelessness. People were no longer numbers on a chart. They were friends trying their best to survive from one day to the next.
Street Angels is tiny - only 2.5 paid staff - but we have dozens of incredibly committed volunteers. We do outreach three times a week on two routes that now cover a very large portion of Milwaukee County. Right now, we are seeing 183 homeless friends living outside. Of those, 48 are women and 7 are over age 60.
Winter is coming. It will bring cold, rain, wind, and snow. And people's lives will be put in danger.
I worry about all those friends but I especially worry about the extreme vulnerability of older adults and women.
Your donation will help us keep bringing food and survival supplies to those outside and enable us to operate a COVID-safe warming room for 25 of the most vulnerable friends we serve.
Thank you so much for your support!
Jan
P.S. Proud to be a board member of Street Angels since 2018 and its current president.
