Have you ever wondered what it might be like for those who are experiencing unsheltered homelessness? If so, join us as we take you on a simulated, interactive, one mile walk through a portion of the Hank Aaron trail. Make choices along the way such as, do you spend your time going to the meal site to eat, or do you go to the resource fair and attempt to get shelter or housing assistance?

What To Expect:

Participants should arrive at 125 N. 120th Street in Wauwatosa, Street Angels headquarters, by 9:50 AM on November 7. Street parking is available. A brief presentation will be provided before participants are dismissed in groups every 10 minutes, so a short waiting period may occur.

The walk is a one-mile loop that starts and finishes at Street Angels headquarters. Along the route, participants will encounter interactive scenario stations hosted by our staff & volunteers and designed to illustrate some of the choices, barriers, and challenges faced by individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness.

Each participant will be assigned a personalized scenario and some participants may be assigned a prop such as a walker, wheelchair, duffle bag, or stroller with a case of water to simulate the weight of a child or all of your earthly possessions. After you complete the walk, staff members will be waiting to greet you to answer questions and provide debriefing time.

This event will take place regardless of weather, sadly someone experiencing unsheltered homelessness does not get to choose the weather. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be pivoted and hosted indoors.
