Founded in 2015, Street Angels is a mobile outreach program that was created to assist people who are experiencing homelessness in the greater Milwaukee area. The outreach takes place 156 nights per year, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday evening.

Each outreach night, two small buses are stocked with hot meals, bag lunches, bottled water, and other items to distribute such as blankets, clothing, tents, and hygiene needs. One bus takes a permanent, route that consists of the same stops, at the same times so people in need know where and when to find the Street Angels. Meanwhile, the other bus explores new areas, follows up on community calls, and greets new friends who require the services that Street Angels provide.

The outreach routes touch every “side” of Milwaukee as well as surrounding communities such as West Allis, Cudahy, and Bay View. Currently, between the two buses, there are an average of 36-40 stops being made and approximately 135 people being served each night.

While the short-term goal of the outreach program is to provide necessities that people need to survive while living on the streets, the long-term goal of the program has a different focus. Street Angels strives to cultivate relationships with each individual served in order to gain their trust and the opportunity to guide them toward a better future, and ultimately into permanent housing by working closely with other organizations and agencies that can provide more tangible resources to assist people in getting on their feet and off the streets.
